Image Reproduction图像再生产

Image Reproduction is a body of work developed from online images, digital platforms, and publicly accessible visual records. I collect material from Google Street View, social media, traffic-management platforms, news screenshots, and online group photographs, then reorganise it through cropping, stitching, classification, layering, reconstruction, and sequencing. Images originally produced for navigation, communication, administration, or personal documentation are placed within new visual and conceptual structures.

The series includes Chinese People in Google Street View, The Hollow of Google Street View, Completing the Hollow of Google Street View, Screenshots from a Traffic Police Reporting Platform, Screenshots of Screenshots, Searching for Women in Online Group Photographs, and People Who Look Like Me. These works examine figures accidentally captured by digital maps, areas that technological systems fail to represent, accident images circulated through administrative platforms, repeated layers of digital reproduction, and the position of the individual within collective imagery and algorithmic resemblance.

Most of these images have already become separated from their original photographers and contexts. Through platform compression, automatic blurring, screenshots, reposting, and repeated uploading, they are transformed into circulating visual fragments whose origins are increasingly difficult to trace. By bringing them into my work, I examine how images are selected, obscured, duplicated, and assigned new meanings within digital systems.

Looking itself becomes an operative method. I search for people in street-view imagery, identify gaps in digital maps, trace the presence of women within group photographs, and look for unfamiliar faces that resemble my own. Searching, enlarging, cropping, and sorting are both artistic procedures and reflections of how reality is increasingly encountered today: through partial images supplied by platforms, from which viewers construct interpretation and imagination.

The series considers the origins, ownership, and reliability of digital images, as well as how individuals are transformed by maps, platforms, surveillance systems, and algorithms into visual information that can be identified, circulated, or overlooked. As more of reality is recorded, absence, distortion, and misrecognition have also become integral to contemporary visual experience.

“图像再生产”是一组以互联网图像、数字平台和公共影像资料为基础的作品。我从谷歌街景、社交媒体、交通管理平台、新闻截图及网络合照中收集图像，再通过截取、拼贴、分类、叠加、补全和重新排列等方式，对这些原本服务于导航、传播、管理或个人记录的视觉材料进行重新组织。

这一系列包括《谷歌街景里的中国人》《谷歌街景的空洞》《补全谷歌街景的空洞》《交警通报平台截图》《对截图的截图》《网络合照中寻找女性身影》和《长得像我的人》等作品。它们分别关注数字地图中偶然出现的人、技术系统无法覆盖的区域、公共管理平台中的事故图像、网络传播造成的多重转录，以及个体在集体影像和算法相似性中的位置。

这些图像大多已经脱离最初的拍摄者与现场。它们经过平台压缩、自动模糊、截屏、转发和再次上传，逐渐成为来源不明、不断流动的视觉碎片。我将它们重新带入作品，并不试图恢复一个完整的原始事件，而是观察图像在数字系统中如何被选择、遮蔽、复制和赋予新的意义。

在这些作品中，观看本身成为一种操作。我寻找街景中的人物，辨认图像里的空洞，在合照中追踪女性的身影，也在海量面孔中寻找与自己相似的人。搜索、放大、截取和分类既是处理图像的方法，也反映了人们今天理解世界的方式：我们越来越多地通过平台提供的局部画面接近现实，并在有限的信息中建立判断和想象。

这一系列关注数字图像的来源、所有权与可信度，也讨论个体如何被地图、平台、监控和算法转化为可识别、可传播或可被忽略的视觉信息。当现实被不断记录时，图像中的缺失、模糊和误认，也构成了当代经验的一部分。
