Everyone Is a Photographer每个人都是摄影师

Everyone Is a Photographer was photographed at popular tourist sites, commercial spaces, and urban landmarks across different Chinese cities. In front of recognisable buildings, spectacles, and public attractions, people raise their phones to take selfies, pose for group photographs, or repeatedly adjust the frame. Photography has become an ordinary gesture within travel and everyday life, as well as a way of confirming one’s connection to a particular place.

I photographed these acts of image-making over time and combined the figures into elongated compositions. Across the images, gestures recur: phones are raised, screens are examined, angles are tested, and companions wait for the shutter to be released. Each person actively constructs an image of their own while simultaneously entering the image of another photographer. The landmark gradually recedes into the background, and the crowd looking at it becomes the central subject.

Smartphones have made photographic production part of everyday experience. Through photographs, people document their presence, shape their public image, and circulate personal experiences on social media. At the same time, similar viewpoints, gestures, and compositions are repeatedly reproduced, turning individual records into a shared visual pattern.

While making the work, I occupy a position similar to that of the people I photograph. They look at the city through their cameras, while I observe the way they look. The series examines the overlapping gazes that structure contemporary public space, asking how we see, how we become visible, and how personal experience is transformed into an image made for circulation.

《每个人都是摄影师》拍摄于中国不同城市的热门景点、商业空间与城市地标。面对具有辨识度的建筑、景观和公共事件，人们举起手机，自拍、合影、摆出姿势，或反复调整画面。摄影已经成为旅行和日常生活中的一种普遍动作，也成为人们确认自身与某个地点发生联系的方式。

我持续拍摄这些正在拍照的人，并将不同时间出现的身影拼接为一幅长图。画面中，人物的动作不断重复：举起手机、注视屏幕、寻找角度、等待同伴按下快门。每个人都在主动选择自己的画面，同时也进入了另一个摄影者的画面。景观逐渐退到背景，观看景观的人群成为作品真正的主体。

智能手机降低了摄影的技术门槛，也使图像生产进入日常生活。人们通过照片记录到访、塑造形象，并在社交媒体中分享经验。与此同时，相似的机位、动作和构图不断被复制，个人化的记录逐渐形成一种集体的视觉模式。

在拍摄过程中，我与画面中的人物保持着相似的位置：他们通过镜头观看城市，我则通过镜头观察他们的观看。作品呈现了当代公共空间中不断交叠的目光，也讨论当每个人都成为摄影者之后，我们如何观看、如何被观看，以及个人经验如何被转化为可传播的图像。
